Infrared temperature measurement of plastics is relatively easy. In most cases an adjustable-emissivity sensor will give the best results.
Thin-film plastics are a special case and require sensors that measure certain wavelengths depending on the type of plastic.

PyroEpsilon
View the data sheet
The low-cost PyroEpsilon has an adjustable emissivity setting to allow accurate results with thick plastics, whatever the plastic type. Emissivity adjustment may be provided by the PyroTune emissivity adjuster or the PPT245, which also provides indication and control functions.
PyroUSB

The PyroUSB may be used in applications where signal processing is required, or where a 4-20 mA input for emissivity adjustment is unavailable.
PyroBus

The configurable PyroBus Series is ideal for applications where a large number of sensors is required. Up to 8 sensors may be connected to the PM240 touchscreen terminal, or up to 32 sensors may be connected to another Modbus Master.

For plastics thinner than around 2.5 mm, the PyroSight Series offers a range of models that should be chosen based on factors such as the type of plastic and whether quartz heaters are in use. Please contact Calex for assistance in selecting a suitable sensor.
